Welcome to the Canadian Vocational Association.

We are a group of individuals and organizations who actively promote and foster vocational and associated fields of education in Canada. It is through the continued efforts of a vital membership and by working both with private industry and government that CVA is able to affect the way in which vocational education is delivered within Canada.

For over three decades CVA has been at the forefront of educational innovations. This website you are browsing is one of the exciting ways CVA is responding to the changes in education and the changing needs of education professionals. Your response to this site is crucial as the information here will reflect your concerns and will shape the future direction of CVA.

We encourage all of our francophone colleagues to contribute their ideas on how to make this site work for them. CVA fully intends to continue to reflect the needs of our francophone network and fully intendes to develop a French component on this website. Please help us by contributing to this site.

CVA is an independent non-profit organization which was created by federal charter in 1960.

The mandate of CVA is to:

  • provide active national leadership in all types of vocational education
  • assist provincial and local communities in promoting vocational education
  • create a national forum for the study and discussion of vocational education
  • encourage the promotion, development and improvement of all vocational programs within the context of lifelong learning

CVA members have the unique opportunity to assist in shaping and developing the field of vocational education in Canada. Belonging to this pan-Canadian organization is beneficial to working professionals in many ways.

Members receive the quarterly CVA Journal, the Occasional Papers (essays and articles published on a periodical basis), and the newsletter The Bulletin. These publications contain current research and commentary about vocational and related fields of education. They are forums which inform and invite reader discussion.

Members receive discounted rates to the National Annual Conference and other events. The CVA annual conference offers a valuable opportunity to network with colleagues from across Canada and to be involved in ground breaking initiatives in education.

Members are welcome to contribute to and to participate in CVA's ongoing initiatives: the innovative Canadian Restructured School Plan (CRSP), the proven and successful certified Facilitator Training Program entitled Developing a Curriculum (DACUM), and the valuable CVA Skills Inventory of Expertise resource.

CVA sponsors an electronic discussion group via list server for members who wish to communicate with others, to share ideas, opinions and insights, and to raise issues important to them and their colleagues. In addition the discussion group can be useful for unearthing professional research and to discover further resources within a given field.

By signing up as a member of the CVA you automatically become part of a dynamic network of people and organizations committed to innovative leadership in vocational education.
